Quantros Clinical Performance Measurement Methodology
Validating Your Hospital Ranking with Quality, Risk-Adjusted Data
Knowing how a hospital stacks up against competitors is vital. Understanding where that performance data comes from—and how it relates to overall care outcomes—is even more critical.
Through the CareChex Awards methodology, Quantros assesses hospital performance based on data from more than 630 million discharges across all 50 states, providing an objective analysis of care quality and patient outcomes.

Clinical Categories Assessed
Hospitals can be scored in 39 different clinical categories, depending on the types of care provided. These include three “Overall” categories—Overall Hospital Care, Overall Medical Care, and Overall Surgical Care—and 36 other categories focused on more specific areas of care.

Quality Outcome Measures
Providers can receive CareChex Awards for exceptional performance in Medical Excellence and Patient Safety.
The Medical Excellence awards are based on three objective measures, each of which is weighted equally in the hospital’s score:
- Mortality
- Complications
- Readmissions
The Patient Safety awards focus solely on performance in patient safety measures.
Unlike other ratings, CareChex Awards do not consider patient satisfaction surveys, physician surveys, or self-reported data, which are often subject to biases and may not accurately reflect outcomes. This way, hospitals are objectively recognized for proven excellence in patient care and outcomes when compared to their industry competitors.
Risk-Adjusted Data
Quantros risk-adjusts patient data to create an even playing field when scoring and ranking hospitals. In other words, you’ll be recognized fairly, regardless of any high-risk patients or other unique situations.
